Suomynona thinks the message is more important than the messenger. Too often we allow others to make judgement decisions for us, or invest belief in someone based on what others think of them. If you can dance with your teacher you can decide if their ideas work, but since we can't dance with each other over the internet, our only method of evaluating ideas is reason.

THe big difference is that when we discuss over the internet we have to describe, accurately, what we're doing in our dancing. this isn't easy, as we've seen in the 'heel lowering' discussions, where different people seem to have different meanings for some words

Well, suomy (I feel as tho I've come to know you), I do agree with that comment. Nevertheless, identifying yourself as Incognito only implies that you have a secret. A name like "herbie" would hide your prestigious identity and the wealth of accolades and dance awards you have accrued just as much as suomynona does.

Again, I do agree with your comment on this thread, and I've learned a lot from your comments on other thread. Just a thought of mine....

The core of my argument is that it really doesn't matter who is talking, only what they have to say. As such I wanted no name at all, rather than a pen name... alas, it appears I have gained one anyway (and a nickname to boot).

I get the feeling somehow that suomynona is not comfortable revealing his identity. could it be because you are less confident of your knowledge on the subject matter in discussion or not having a clear explanation.
But i do agree with the fact its not easy to explain over the internet.

also from the above thread from philsamways where he takes the eg of the heel lowering thread, i have always found out that when jonathan explains, the thread always ends up with a thank you note.
His explanations on the subject matter are so precise that with just one read, you seem to get it.

If you rest your faith in names or titles, you are welcome to ignore any comment that doesn't have any attached... On the other hand, if you read and think, you should be able to make your own decisions about what to believe without needing such hints.

Not that suomynona needs anyone to hold up for him or her, but just how do we know that all you doubters aren't actually mental patients? Just because you use a handle or a "legitimate name" doesn't mean that it's "real".

Why should anyone *have* to reveal his or her identity to you- why are you that special?

It's the internet. It isn't safe to give out "real names"- that's the "cardinal rule", isn't it?
