This may seem a silly question but here goes. My daughter (7) started Ballroom/ Latin dancing lessons this year. She has her first Bronze Composite Metal exams in a week. I am unsure what outfit she should wear. Her teacher has suggested a skirt and top, something she has already and not to purchase a outfit. I agree with this as I am not in the position to purchase a new outfir. However I am not sure what she should wear on her feet, stockings or not, if so what sort? Is she expected to wear makeup? How about hair? I would be grateful for any advise. Thanks

I forgot to say that we live in Sydney, Australia. In case that has any bearing to the answers

i sugest you ask her teacher about the rest, he/she would know better than the rest of us.

I agree. Her teacher should tell you what's expected. But I doubt if she should wear makeup if she's going to wear regular clothes. Personally, it gives me the creeps to see a 7-year old decked out in full adult makeup and hair. If she has long hair, it might be nice to put it up in a simple bun and use some hairspray to keep it one place. Mainly, though, I think she should be comfortable and able to concentrate on her dancing.

Thanks for the hair tip Ellen. I totally agree with you concerning the adult makeup and hair. I am just a little worried that we will turn up looking one way and that everyone else will be as you say decked out.
I will ask her teacher again about the accessories.
Thanks again

I cannot agree with Ellen more!!

We compete amatuar, and often AM is on the same day as Jr. competiters... It just drives me crazy to see the Jr's in full make up...

Dacning at Sr level,I know that it is only to my benefit to wear costumes that are the most appelaing for my age and shape, the same holds true for the Jr's... You cannot pull off or look becoming at something that you are not.

Omara. Being a male I might add this bit.You are in Australia. The medal is a Composite Bronze. Unless things have changed dramaticly. Your daughter will do three dances one in each style. One will be in New Vogue Latin and Modern. So you need something that is suitable for all three styles. Sometimes something very simple can be very effective. Something in the hair, and a bit of a showy belt is all that is needed. Nothing tight across the knees. I saw one young lady, beautiful dress a bit clingy. That was OK, but she couldn't step to the side without the dress restricting her movement. One last thing always have a bit of a practise in the gear that is to be worn. This includes the shoes. A bit of that clear lipstick might make her seem special. And tell her the examiner is on her side. They would love to see a good medal.Best of luck.

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter did the exam and I was very proud of her. She looked great and all the other students wore similar outfits (no one was too showy). We received her makrs yesterday, and she is very proud of her medal. Thanks for the advice
