Int. Rumba and American Rumba

When I go social dancing we get all types of music played by the DJ. I am working on my Int Rumba, but
don't get very much music at at 25 to 26
BPM that is true Int. Rumba. Bolero is about the same speed but has a sweeter sound to it and the 2 beat is not quite as recognizeable. Does anyone else try to dance Int. Rhumba to Am. Rumba or Bolero music. Or should I just dance Am Rumba or Bolero and save Int. Rumba dances for music with the true Int. Rumba beat and timing. It just doesn't feel exactly right dancing Int Rumba to
Bolero and Am. Rumba music.

Agree. It doesn't feel right to dance the Rhumba to Rumba or Bolero music. The problem is, with most Bolero music and a lot of Rumba music the bass pattern is typically half note-quarter-quarter in a 4/4 measure of music, giving it that distinct slow-quick-quick sound.

Most DJ's don't know or care about the difference. You can try asking. I have never had success asking. I just end up dancing the Bolero
