Please assist me to understnad the point walk and forward step/ backward step.
Right hip 1/8 left turn results in tango curved track . I would like to know whether or not the foward step or backward step is treated as walk ? When left foot instep is level with rifht foot BT, the hip should be advanced in closed position, including stop after side step ?
My teacher said right hip advanced only in walk . how can I distiguish walk and common forward / backward step ? I did confuse now.

You would need to deteremine which steps have CBM as it is CBM during a left foot step that will bring your right hip in advance. You can do this either by studying the steps, or by simply following the presence or abscence of your partner (which of course is the only choice when dancing with a partner)

I'm not sure there are any plain forward walking steps in Tango for the left foot, which would not feature CBM and not land in CBMP. But maybe you or your teacher can find an example. The left foot steps not executed with the curve of the tango walk would be those with the opposite shape - left side lead or natural CBMP as used for stepping outside partner/partner outside.

Anonymous, Thanks for response.
I asked my teacher how to distiquish figure walk and common forward / backward step/ steps in Tango? He gave me similar answer as you did . CBM. Maybe my question was not clear enough .
1. right foot levels with left foot instep , seen in stop action following a side step , should we have right hip 1/8 advanced the left hip in closed position ? In closed promenade, strong left turn on left foot + right i/e of right ball on side sl back, body weight transfers to RF , pick LF up and closed to RF, without weight , in right foot levels with LF instep tango position . Right advanced hip has been completed in stop or closed position. So, my answer is yes in closed position, walk ( as one of figure as other ) stop in square position . But Alex Moore wrote in
page 222 and 227 made me seek the answer again.
"Walking movements in the Tango are not taken with the man facing square to the LOD. When a step is taken down the LOD his feet and body will be facing alomost DC, WITH HIS R HIP AND SHOULDER IN ADVACE OF HIS L. IN BACKWARD MOVEMENTS THE REVERSE WILL APPLY. THIS POSITIONING OF THE BODY AT THE COMMNECEMENT OF THE DANCE WILL AFFECT THE WALK IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:EACHE STEP TAKEN FORWARDWITH THE LF WILL GIVE THE EFFECT OS MOVING ACROSS THE OBDY " ( CBM).
" It is important that the L heel is placed on , not across the line of the RF. AS A STEP IS TAKEN WITH THE RF THE RIGHT SIDE IS LEADING ....THIS ACTION WILL RESULT IN THE WALK TAKING THE LINE OF A WIDE CURVE TO THE MAN'S L. IN BACKWARD MOVEMENTS THE MAN'S L SIDE WILL LEAD, WHEN STEPPIN BACK WITH LF, RF BACK STEPS ARE PLACED IN CBMP.
1/8 left turn, right knee closed behinde left , right foot levels with left foot instep , so left inguinal crease remarkable with advacned and higher right hip ( lady .) With such condition, with or without CBM, left curved tract presents. and a resultasnt 1/8 left turn allignment changed with each step. such as backing DW , when RF step backward , we will backing LOD, But I noted my teacher only asked me to put RF level with LF instep , not resulting from 1/8 turn . Our shoulders paralleled in square position when we entered the tango connection. no left turn . Of course , when we danced 2 walk , I followed his CBM and side leading to create Left track. (In right hip advanced position, no turn needed but curve occurred I maintained left inguinal crease is square position, stop after site step , forward step(s)/ backward step(s ) except with in pormenade position. or contra PP. FP. pivots. side step , check ...)
On the page 227, the given examples made me confused. Alex Moore only mentioned the leading progressive walk having a different alignment from the actual direction of the step . not including the forward/ backward steps. In Tango , walk or backward /forward steps are different ? The advanced right hip is only present in conncetion position and figure walk and so the resultant left curved track like my teacher said ?
Alex Moor wrote : Step back LF, down the LOD, the direction of the step will be down the LOD but the left side lead will result in the feet and body backing DC.
( feather backing DC, neither LF back in CBM, nor RF right side leading , I still on the same track. Why tango back step in same track but side leading different ? Why right hip advanced only affects side leading not as well as walk : RF back in CBM and LF back, side leading ? each step makes left curve , changes alignment .What I missed ? HELP!!

It may be a solution of my question.
The answer got from the simply the best , posture, tango , with Marcus .
He mentioned several points in tango comparing with the other dance. (I will use allthese points in my tango and might discuss with my teacher very carefully )I was so glad to hear Karen suggestion about the position of her left elbow and hand . I used it before , then my teacher altered it ,uncomfortable and shorter forearm and hand due to too close his armpit.)
He said : rotate right hip (right knee involved ) INTO THE LEFT . He put hIs both hands on the front of his LEFT pelvis, to make sure the left side does not rotate back. and call it RIGHT SIDE LEADING, same in lady also.more flexed knees , and more flexed ankles. keeping parallel shoulders . IT is different from simple 1/8 left turn. the feeling is right hip rotates forward , presses into left hip, left hip against and absorb the rotation as much as possible. this is the lower part . )
Because it was mentioned in the posture, style part, I thought it had become a character and should be maintaint in all closed position.including stop step following a side step.
Walk , stop are common in tango. Even having right side leading similar in man and lady, additional CBM if needed is acceptable. The main point is RF is on LF line ( lady back walk ), not across it , of cause across the body center line. right toe in . RF back step may heel leading . resultant new alignment is unavoidable either in The Walk , or forward/backward step. I feel more comfortable now.
