Sure. Try not breathing and see how far you get.

It's not so much when you breath or how you do it, as long as you are breathing. Breathing is going to help keep your body and frame relaxed. If you hold your breath your body will tense, your shoulders will creep up, and you may turn funny colors
As for technique, try slow even breaths. Hope this helps.

In the gym, you would breath out forcefully when applying maximum exertion (for example, raising your lower body in a sit-up)
It's the same in dancing. lowering steps tend to be the driving steps where you apply power, so breath out on those. for example, step 1 in a waltz natural turn.
In picture steps, make sure you breath naturally throughout. I used to hold my breath in case anything went wrong!!(so of course it often went wrong)

Very good point!Breathing avoid from turning bluish color and is helpful to keep natural frame; Expire in driving step, gradually inspire while swing up .Thanks. It did help me to avoid from holding breath almost through out the dance. ( I always forgot to breath. )

Yichen. Never even thought about breathing. We were told very recently when the question was put to the teacher
Not to breath through the stomach but breath to expand the chest sideways like a singer. One thing is for sure. Always close your eyes whilst sleeping.
Don't stop breathing or you'll die. If I were you I would forget about when to breath and just breath.
You might try dancing your routine counting out load all the slows and quicks. Any breathing problems will soon show up. Have the oxygen ready though. It can be harder than you think over about 30 bars or one minute.

Dear kind Don. Thanks of advcie. Yes, I don't want to turn funny color as someone mentioned ... I will learn to breath through expanding the chest sideway rather than stomach breathing.
