Is Ballroom dancing for me?

Im 14 and have recently taken a more active view on life and have started doing more phycisal activities. I have always liked dancing but have never thought that I could do it. I have seen the movies and just adore trying out the steps.I'm not sure if Ballroom dancing can be an amateurs dance or if it is for the more trained. I don't know where to start with all the different dance's and styles. Is there anyone who could give me a point in the right direction on what to do or give me some tips?

Ballroom is for everyone- I started at 14. People aren't born dancers, everyone starts their training at one point or another! Google for ballroom studios in your area, look in the yellow pages, try www.accessdance.com, go to the library for books, watch videos, etc. You can also try local colleges and rec centers for group classes along with the regular studios. Where do you live? Good luck!

There are numerous categories in ballroom dancing. Ranging from social dancing to the highest level professional competition dancers. In this area, there are quite a few teenagers that dance ballroom socially and some in team competitions.

Ballroom dancing is something anyone can get into. besides the social dancing, there is competitive options at different levels of ballroom dancing.

Hey

I'm 19 and pretty new to dancing as well, I only started about 7 months ago. We started with some of the (apparently) easier dances....basic waltz, two step, evening 3-step....stuff like that.

We're learning because my partner is a member of the local Caledonian Society and needed to learn to dance for the balls and functions they have. Older members of the Society put us onto the studio/teacher, so word of mouth is a big thing as well. Ask around, you'll be surprised. :)
