hi everyone,
i dont know how to dance swing yet, and im really interrested in EC swing and lindy hop. i had a dance lesson in PE for a couple weeks and it seemed really fun and a nice way to have fun (although it was only taught by a PE teacher). but the problem is that im only 15 and im having trouble finding a place to learn. most places are clubs that offer lessons for an hour or so, but there is an age reqirement. and most of the places are wc sing which is much slower. i dont go to studios because i dont really have the money to take the lessons there.
If anyone has any helpful tips about where i could learn or studios that are prety cheap (in the san fernando valley area) i would really appreciate it. my friend and i have been wanting to learn for a few years now, and it wouldnt be all that great to give up because of our age.
any other tips that could help someone beginning to learn would be great too

Most studios have group classes that cost pretty much the same as a movie.

Or you could check places like the YMCA, parks and recreation centers, etc.

Or, if you could get a small group of people together who wanted to learn, you could split the cost of a private lesson. If you could get about 6 people, you could have your own private "group" class for not much more each than a regular group class.

thanks for the response
i tried the YMCA and couldnt find anything....all they had were sports like basketball and hockey and such...
and i tried the local community college, which classes are free for high school students, but the classes started already for the semester
ill try getting some people together to try the group lesson thing...thanks again

btw: do you reccomend trying to learn at social events, or do you think they may give me tips that teach me the wrong way?

Go to www.socalswing.com to find the latest info.

There are 21 and over places, but most lindy hop places are all ages.

Pasadena is going to be your best bet. You can try convincing your parents to take you, make friends with someone who can drive and go together, or wait till you get your license.

You don't need a partner, and everyone is friendly.
