Hi Rose ~ You sound alot like me. I'm 34 and never tried partner dancing because my husband truly has no interest, he would try it for me, but I don't want that. I've been raising my 3 children for the last ten years, and it's about time I did something for me and I'm interested in someday competing amatuer, also (pipe dream). I'm new to these boards too. I've been reading posts for about a month now, so I've learned alot and I found a local studio through this website. I will be starting classes in March and I have hopes of finding a partner through the studio, but that remains to be seen!
Lots of luck~

How about starting off with some group classes at your local dance studio? That is the best way to break into ballroom and make some new friends. Then when you feel up for it, you can attend the social dances offered by your studio and practice what you've learned there. Finding that first partner can be a daunting task, but sooner or later, you'll find someone!

Best of luck,

tango

Hi Rose.

Welcome. I agree with Tango. Start with local group classes.

This website has a listing of places to dance/take lessons. I also did a search on Yahoo. I searched for places to go ballroom dancing in my area. The results were quite satisfactory.

Once you start going to social dances, you'll start meeting quite a few people. Don't worry about going to a social and being new. The studio where I frequent always encourages newcomers to get out on the dance foor.

I wouldn't put emphasis on finding a partner so soon. You'll know when you're ready to search for one.

Happy dancing.

Regards, Hoofer

Rose

If you are a member of the Elks, Moose, Eagles or one of the other groups, use their Bulletin Board.
In this area, these clubs have dances every Friday, Saturday and a few on Sunday night.
We run into people all the time in these clubs that would love to learn to dance.
We been dancing for nine years and the number of people you meet is just unbelieveable.
Good luck and have a great time.

Terry and Karen

Rose,

Welcome to Dancetalk... we hope we can help you find a practice partner! In addition to using this message board, you may also want to check the classified ads (and perhaps even post your own ad) on Ballroomdancers.com. You can find them at this address:
