Hello I'm part of a univeristy club in the usa. we are trying to make some big changes this year and redo our club and start offering classes for the dance attendees. The dance attendees have voiced they would like to see international style lessons being taught, but the problem in where we live there are only american style teachers and its clear they don't understand international style. in our community there are some amateur competitors who compete in the international style who would be willing to teach, but don't do so out of fear of losing their amateur status with usad and ndca. If the amateur were to teach and not receive any pay for doing so, would they be able to retain their amateur status, or would they be putting themselves in jeopardy? A friend said he tried emailing both ndca and usad, but has yet to hear back from them. does anyone have any advise?

please help

USA Dance has a program where Elite-Level or Certified DanceSport Athletes can teach without losing their amateur status. The rules for these, including how to report net dance income to USA Dance, are in the rule book on the USA Dance web site at http://www.usabda.org

how would these rules apply to a non-elite/certified amateur dancer if he/she doesn't receive pay/financial gain from instructing?

Could it not be viewed as community service?

I am not an eligibility expert so I suggest that you look on the USA Dance web site to find out who the DanceSport Representative is for your Region and ask them.

Is USA Dance sanctioned by either USABDA or NDCA? Most likely it is by USABDA but not NDCA (or the other way around)---so they would want to make sure and check out both governing body's rules. It is my understanding that USABDA and NDCA aren't as interchangable or buddy-buddy as they once were.
