Stones turning black

Hello,

I noticed some of my Swarovski stones on my comp. dress turned black after being left in the cover for a month. I don't clean my dress after each comp. but leave it hung to be air-dried for a couple of days. Is the discoloration a sort of chemical reaction of my sweat left in my dress and the glue? How do I prevent it from happening?

Thank you.

Could be something attacking the aluminium foil backing that is between the stone and the dress. Is it uniform, or dark spots? Do you see it if you look through the stone sideways?

Hello Anonymous - no, it's not always uniform. The stone itself is fine, but the aluminum turns black. When I peel the stone off to replace with the new one, only the stone comes off leaving the aluminum on the dress.

That sounds like a chemical reaction to me, but probably not with the glue. It's probably the aluminum itself turning black.
