Looking through the notes I took whilst attending a lecture given by a very high profile dance personality. No break in the ankle to the toe. When stepping forward think of the back foot expanding the front foot like a vice where one part of the jaws remains still. No swing on a backward step.Never swing the same time as your partner. Here is an interesting point. The bottom swings not the leg.

Correction. That should read No break in ankle to toe on a backward step.

Lets take a look at Latin the Rumba. Here to break, or to bend at the Achilles Tendon is desirable. In modern on a Backward Walk to break at the Achilles is wrong and inhibiting.
