When stepping forward think of the back foot expanding the front foot like a vice where one part of the jaws remains still. No swing on a backward step.Never swing the same time as your partner. Here is an interesting point. The bottom swings not the leg.

Lets take a look at Latin the Rumba. Here to break, or to bend at the Achilles Tendon is desirable. In modern on a Backward Walk to break at the Achilles is wrong and inhibiting.
