Leonda:
Dance is an art of expression. performing in this art has nothing to do with whether you are a serious person or not. Since ancient times, dances have expressed circumstantial feelings, such as virility and bravery for men before a battle, grace for women, etc. In ballroom dance, partners express feelings inspired by music. Certain latin dances (notoriously rumba) inspire very sensual motions of the body which allow partners to interpret scenes of courtship. Actors do the same when they interpret scenes of passion. This does not mean that in their private lives, dancers and actors seek to be provocative...
Conversely, too much shyness and theoretical approach may turn out to be a handicap in life. That's when dance can provide an opportunity to develop confidence and a certain degree of assertiveness in one's own expressions.
How to start ballroom dancing? It's very simple. Make a list of ballroom studios in your area, and visit them to see if you like what you see. Many ballroom studios offer a complimentary first half hour of instruction (no charge to you). Otherwise, make sure that you are able to afford the instructor's rate, which usually falls in the range between $50.00 to $80.00 an hour. But remember:

Just like group lessons private instruction will only help if you devote adequate time for practice. I hope this helps. Cheers, JGengin.
