in international rumba, what is the difference between a spot turn and a switch turn?

Anonymous. A Spot Turn to the man's right is a Walk on the LF keeping the RT on the floor and still. With the weight over the LF use your hip to turn which also produces a hip movement. If that is too much just turn over your LF.After you have turned look down at your RF and see if your toe is turned out which it should be. If at this point you were to bring your feet together ( just to check ) they should be at an angle of 5 to 1 on a clock face. A Switch Turn I haven't a clue.

The turn described by Anon 3 is now known as a Switch Turn. Having stepped forward on the LF a sharp turn (Switch) is made to the R on the LF keeping the RF in place. Many years ago when this movement became popular it was sometimes referred to as a Cucaracha Turn. An alternative way of dancing a Spot Turn is to dance 3 forward walks circling to end facing partner. The 3rd walk can be taken forward or it can finish to the side. These endings depend on the distance you are away from your partner when dancing the 3rd walk.

Slavik and Karina's recent dvd has excellent demonstrations. So does the Corky and Shirley tapes. Or get your teacher to demonstrate--it's a little hard to explain in writing.

Why don't you guys go to the learning center where you can get a print out and a demonstration.

An Underhand Turn to the Left for the lady. The lady does a Spot Turn to her Left 7/8ths of a turn all told. Man holds the ladies Right Hand, with his Left Hand, which is moved in a circle above the ladies right shoulder allowing her to turn to her Left.
