is it possible to lose it?

I started practicing the basic salsa movement a couples weeks ago. it was complicated to master at first; the movements looked really robotic, as i'm sure is common for beginners. i continued to practice it until i felt like i had the rythmn down. i could tell that i had learned the step because it looked and felt good. a day or so later, i practiced it and i could barely remember how to do it. i couldn't remember how to move my legs right and it felt all wrong. is this normal? i tried to watch the movie clips on this site to relearn it again, but it just doesn't feel natural anymore. it's extremely frustrating. any suggestions?

The learning process can be bumpy. Especially at the beginning, you rarely start a new practice where you left off the last time--there's some slippage until you learn it well enough that it is embedded in your muscle memory.

Just start off again to do the steps like you did the first time. Don't try to make it feel like it did last time. Instead, focus on doing the steps correctly and see what it feels like this time. I bet you'll get comfortable with the step quicker this time than you did before.
