dance wax

Hi Everyone --
I am a ballroom dance teacher encountering some difficulties with the local dance clubs over the issue of dance wax. Some of the older folks want this stuff, which makes the floor absolutely treacherous for real dancers with dance shoes on. I am strongly advising the clubs to not allow this on the floor, but encountering resistance. I also think they are just asking for a lawsuit when someone slips and falls.

Can anyone out there tell me of silimar experiences they have had and whether or dnot they were able to prevail on this issue?

Thanks,

c

CJB. If its the same stuff used to make a floor slippery it is called h POPS here.I havent struck it for for a while but it is still available. It might be ok for people with ordinary everyday shoes, but for dance shoes never. If a floor is slippery and you want to fix it, have a squeeze bottle of castor oil handy. Squeeze some here or there and mob in with a wet mop ( water ). It will not harm the floor and nobody would know except it is no longer a skating rink. Failing that you can apply the oil, any oil, to the bottom of your shoes.Just don't tread it around.
Once I was at a place that was behond a joke. Didn't have any oil, so we used some engine oil from the car dip stick.I also met a guy who used to prepare a dance floor with POPS, his method to find if he had put enough down was to take a run and a slide across the floor, and if he slid for about 2 to 3 yards according to him that was fine. I'm not sure but I think now the Public Liability have had something to say about this.

I was at a swing dance fund raiser were they put that junk on part of the floor. When everyone moved from that area, they tried to remove it and got enough off to make the floor useable.

Main ballroom dance venue in Wisconsin, use to have big band dances and some of the schufflers were bringing wax powder and putting it on the floor. Owner switched to recorded ballroom music and no longer has anyone messing up the floor with wax. He has a very nice wood floor, that works great with dance shoes.

That stuff is really treacherous if you have dance shoes on.
