My friend is asking me wehther i could teach her dancing, is it possible that a lady teaches another lady? or it's better that she takes courses with a man?do i have to do the man's part or just give her lady's steps? thx for your help and reply asap.

if you do not know the answer to that question, you do not have sufficient knowledge to be teaching

That's rather blunt, Anon, but I admit I have to agree with you.

All of the really fine teachers I have had were able to dance both the man's part and the woman's part with me or with my wife.

And some of them required that I learned to follow as well as to lead (and they were RIGHT!).

U didn't get me right. I was telling you that my friend is asking me to teach her dancing. I wouldn't ask for advise if i'm willing to become a teacher. I know how to do the men's steps, but is it better for her to take courses with a man so she could practice better or is my teaching for her enough so she could dance with any man?

you are asking how to teach your friend
which means you are asking how to teach
and because you are asking, you must not know
so should you be doing something you don't know how to do?

you could try it and see

anonymous thx anyway, i'm figuring out that in this forum there's no true dancing discussion and helping for each others, it's a total show off and everybody are trying to show that they are the best.Nobody is doing a real discussion nobody has the intention to help, but everybody are seeking to be the best and show that they are right! anyways thx!but dancers musn't be rude but on the contrary they must be nice persons opened on others and more helpful.no?????

Mariana,

I'm sorry, but if you can't figure out such a basic procedural element, what are you going to teach your friend.

Try thinking back about how teachers worked with you - what did they do? How did they present the ideas?

We're not being rude, I think you are taking offense too easily. It takes a lot of skill and knowledge to be a good dance teacher.

How did you learn to dance? Did a friend or relative just show you the steps, or did you go take lessons with experienced teachers?

If this is just a case of friends showing friends how to dance, then do what you think is comfortable for both of you. But if you are an actual dance teacher, who has been trained in how to teach effectively, then your training should have included information that would have answered your question. If it didn't include that, then your teacher training was rather lacking.

Now, to actually answer your question: partner dance teachers who go through actual teacher training courses and take the teacher examinations from the various teaching societies (like the ISTD, ITDA, Terpsichore Society, or DVIDA) have to understand and be able to demonstrate, dance, and teach both the man's and lady's part. That way, any person can teach any other person about dancing, regardless of what gender the teacher and the student are. Since you didn't know or realize that, it indicates that you don't really know all that much about teaching dancing at this point. Are you sure you are really ready to teach, and to be a good teacher? Maybe you could be a great teacher if you took the time to get some more information and training.
