Okay, this probably has been asked beofre but I can't seem to find any evidence of it so I thought I would post it as a question.

With the popularity of ballroom dancing increasing you would think that the price of dancing tails would go down due to demand and competition. Well it appears that we're still aiming at about $1000. So can anyone recommend any places that a starving student can buy a decent set of tails for competition? I live in Canada so if there's a store here that would even be better!

Understand too for dancing they are always custom made, there are no stores that stock them. The only time you will find a pre-made suit is if you buy one second hand from a teacher who is upgrading. Traditionally you ordered them from specialists in England, so ordering them from another country is the same process, only cheaper prices for a lower quality product.

The price would only drop if there were extremely high volume resulting in mass production. The kind of volume required for mass production is probably ten thousandfold greater than the increase of competitive men dancers due to the recent surge in popularity. So mass production is not likely anytime soon.

Until we see as many tailsuits as iPods, you're probably not going to get a chaeap one off the assembly line. So your only choices right now are custom made or used. Used is obviously cheaper, but the trick is finding one with the perfect fit. If you do, consider yourself very lucky. If you don't, you might have to stick with a vest suit for the time being, and start saving your money.

Actually the price would drop simply if production were moved from a high wage country to a low wage one, while remaining under the supervision of someone who knew what they were doing, could interface with customers, and could manage the business well.

I am in Canada too. My partner just got tails made at a very decent price (very good quality too!)for competitions. It is Sylvie Labelle (an ex-competitor)that did it for him. P.S She made me a gorgeous standard dress too!
