I have read this article (http://members.isp01.net/hfsears/lessons/frame.html)

"Finally, stretch your torsos up a little. Fill your lungs, head up, shoulders back, stomach in, chest out."

It´s not the same as in the learing center - posturce article?

What is meant with "fill your lungs" and "chest out"??

And what must I made with my left side as man? Strech to the woman?

Thanx

Chest out is wrong. All that will do is shorten the back. We must have a back at shoulder level like a moulded coat hanger that is shaped to a curve.I also read an article that we should expand our lungs across the body. Whatever we do don't stick the chest out. Keep those elbows level with the front of the ribcage. Stick your chest out and what happens.

Forget all that crap. Lungs full, chest out, neck stretched up. What?! No wonder most amateur dancers look like they've a stick up their butts. Do you think you can dance with your lungs full? You do have to breathe sometime and your lungs ain't gonna stay full when you exhale.

Sorry Anonymous, I hit the enter key by accident. To help acchieve the correct posture stretch your upper body form the center of your back. The Rhomboid (sp?) muscles in the center of your back between your shoulder blades is the one that should give you the feeling of hanging from the ceiling. Not only will using those muscles give you the posture you are looking for, it will also be the point from which your every movement originates in the upper body. Your latin and smooth dancing movement will be dictated by using that muscle group. It will take some practice to isolate the feeling but when it does it will take your posture and movement to another level. Research it and try it!! It works, and its free!

Mike. If it helps John Wood on his tape says . Let all of your bones hang into their correct place like we we are hanging from the ceiling by a hook fixed to our head. The spine stays straight

That's all very well quickstep, but what john wood probably didn't explain is how do i know the correct positions for all my bones? As far as i know, they've been in the correct position for a long time before i started dancing, yet my posture was awful. I'm interested in some of the other comments here. I think the 'fill your lungs' thing should have been "fill your lungs and hold that position". Breathe normally but hold the position.
Just a few years ago the idea was to get the elbows in line with the shoulder blades - then it was in line with the centre of the torso - now it's in line with the chest, which i must say is much more natural. I developed a serious shoulder injury trying to keep my left elbow back excessively. (you'll be delighted to hear it's fully recovred now )

I think the idea is to look and be comfortable. That's what the bones hanging from the ceiling all in their rightfull place and not with the shoulders lifted to an unnatural position. That's what its all about .
If you were being taught a few years ago the left elbow was to the rear of the ribcage. The right elbow was to the front of the ribcage. Now both elbows are to the front. The other way felt like I was opening the left side up. Which it was.
Breathing. It is possible to breath in inhaling into the stomach, and out goes the chest. Or you can breath across the body. I believe singers are trained that way.
Fortunately I've never had any trouble with breathing. Singing and I am in trouble.
