Mixers at dances?

Hello,

I'm interested in reading about new mixers to use at dances. The two that I have seen used are:

"The Line" - The women interested in dancing line up in one corner of the room, and the men take the first partner in line to dance. After dancing around the room the men leave their partner at the end of the line and take whichever partner is at the front of the line. This usually lasts through 2-3 songs.

"Hat Dance" - Like musical chairs. Everyone couples up and gets on the dance floor, but one couple is given a set of plastic hats. While the music is playing everyone dances, exept for the couple with the hat. They have to go break up two other couples because if the music stops while you have the hat, you are out! Dancing continues until only one couple remains. They usually win a prize!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Brian

I'll agree with TheDitz, the point of mixers is to meet all kinds of people and dance with everyone, not just the group you already know.

Besides, as a dance ambassador I make it a point to dance with people who don't really know how to dance. I didn't know how to dance a few years ago, and now it's a great part of my life!

Because it gives us stuck outside your group a chance to dance with someone who "knows" how to dance. And helps neophytes avoid the embarrasement of having to ask someone to dance.

I have to wonder about these mixers.

Was at a social the other night, and during the foxtrot mixer danced with what seemed to be the only person in the room, outside of the group of friends I came with, who perhaps really knew how to dance. Unfortunatley, I was unable to find her for another dance during the rest of the evening.

Kinda makes you wonder what's the point...
