What do some of you do for solo practicing technique for latin?

I do some of the following:

Rumba--
Rumba backward and forward Walks
Basic Movement
Cucarachas

Cha Cha--
Basic movement
Lock steps bacwards and forward

Samba--
Basic and Reverse Turns
Bota Fogos--forwards and backwards
Whisk
Samba Walks
Voltas--Left, Right and Spot
Promanade Walks
Samba rolls

Jive--
Basic and Flicks

I will then use the above technique to some of the syllabus figure and use an imaginary partner. How can I improve these solo routines?

In our studio everytime without fail there will be a warm up with Rumba Walks one behind the other around the room to music. They are all very skilled dancers. It may differ slightly from week to week. but usually there will be Spot Turns and
Cucarachas. The routine used whether it be in a Cha or a Samba is in eight bar phrased. Which is designed to start the second phrase on the opposite foot. As you are probably aware in the Samba it is not possible to dance out of phrase with the music successfully. If for some reason you decide that you will drop a couple of bars in the Samba you will have to add another couple in their place. There is no option. So whilst doing your Samba practice keep it within the eight bars. I dont know how good you are. But if you miss the start of the Samba with the music, if you started a couple of bars late you are in trouble with the timing. That is why in practise one has to be aware of this

I' ll add a bit more to the above which might help to get the feeling of dancing within the eight bars of music
Rumba Solo. Start RF One Walk Two Cucarachas (first one to the right). We now need a Back Basic to complete the four bars. Follow this with two Walks this time and two Cucarachas the (first to the left) .. That completes eight bars of music. This leaves the LF free to start again. If you started on bar one of the new phrase. You will hear and feel the start of the new phrase as you finish this little group.
The above group can look pretty neat if performed by a group. For those who are not aware this type of practise dancing was pioneered by Barbara Ambrose of Slovinia and presented at Blackpool in 1997.
If you have a Waltz or Foxtrot group of eight bars you will feel the beginning and the end just the same as the Rumba. That is dancing on time and in phrase. It is possible to dance on time but out of phrase in all the dances. But that is not the best way to go..

For those who like Latin. A very easy to do excercise is. Stand feet apart toes turned out That is position one or neutral.Move the weight to the left and raising the right heel from the floor.
We now have the right hip higher than the left. That is position two. Back to position one and raise the left heel from the floor, the left hip is higher than the right that is position three. To give this a count position one is an and count.
Can you do all of the above whilst doing a front and back basic.
When coming to a neutral position don' t just move the hip, dance it.
