At Blackpool in the greatest of all the dance competitions they are using the word Ballroom. For instance Rising Stars Professional Ballroom. And not that awfull word Standard.
To me the word Standard conveys to me. very ordinary. The syle Modern Ballroom dancing is anything but ordinary.

Well, the word "standard" also means the benchmark against which other thinks are judged. So maybe you could think of it that way.

I think that the people who penned that name Standard were not English speaking. It is a translation. What would the word Standard be in Holland..That is just my own opinion. I would much rather see on the front of an album Ultimate Ballroom and definitely not Ultimate Standard. What say you.

You can only safely call standard/modern "ballroom" within the community of people who dance exclusively that and international latin. In any broader setting, you risk confusion with other "ballroom" dances.
