What Dance Is This?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone could help me identify what dance the couple in this video is doing - I'm guessing it's a waltz, but don't know very much about ballroom dancing.

The video can be found on YouTube, here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=oRTZcRals9E. The dance in question starts about 1 minute into the clip.

The song they are dancing to is called "Save the Last Dance."

Thanks!
Rachel

That song is a rumba. It looks like they're trying to waltz to it. Waltz and rumba are both based on the box step.

I would say the music itself is more suited to a cha-cha. The steps seem to be a mish-mash. Some waltz box steps

The key word here is "trying."

That is really funny!

The music sounds more like Rumba than anything, but at around 138 bpm, doesn't really lend itself to any standard dance style.

It's a typical Drifter's song. Almost everything they did sounded a little like rumba. They did have one good rumba, Under The Boardwalk, but Save The Last Dance For Me is really too fast. However, I guess it fits the dance since the dance was just a bunch of misc steps, kinda like real dance steps but with no particular style.
