Description for Cha Cha Cha (same in Rumba, but replace the 4+ 1 Chassé by a single slow step over beats 4-1).
LADY starting in fan position backing diagonally to center*. (1) on beat 2 close feet RF to LF; (2)on beat 3 LF forward; (3, 4, 5)on beats 4+ 1 RF fwd Chassé (until the end of that: NO turn [mistake often made because of the man's L hand movement], so keep the diagonal direction in the room and reach the man's L side still right angled to him); (6) on beat 2 take a fwd walk straight towards the wall* (1/8 turn to L between steps 5, 6); (7) on beat 3 RF forward to the wall, but making 3/8 turn to L at the end of the step to finish backing diagonally to wall against LOD* - this technique of taking a step forward first, but ending it in an other direction is called a "forward walk turning"; (8, 9, 10)on beats 4+ 1 LF bwd Chassé curving 1/8 turn L to end backing wall*;
next figure starting with a RF bwd rock in open facing position.
*of course Cha Cha Cha has NO ALIGNMENT in the room (no relation to any wall), but I often use a "training direction" for easier teaching the amount of turn. That means, these figures are defined without a relation to any wall and may be danced in any direction, but with the same amounts of turns.
GOOD LUCK
p.s.
You pay the teacher also to be patient, don't you? Me as a teacher, I never allow myself to get bugged by pupils dancing wrong steps.
