Hi my name is Darleen, I am from Harahan, Louisiana (20 mins mins away from New Orleans). My personality is out going, honest, hardworking. If you want to know more feel free to ask.

In dance I am looking for someone who can teach me ballroom dance. I have always wanted to learn how to dance ballroom or salsa. I have no experince in dance. But I am a quick learner, and I am determined to do this. I am looking for a dance teacher or a dance coach to help me. I would start off doing it as recreational, and if I end up on stage at shows dancing. Thats cool too. But this is something I have always wanted to learn.

I looked on this website for outfits for ballroom dance, I didnt know how expenisve it was. But they are really nice. I am looking for something that is black or dark colored, and in the price range of $200 and $450 USD

I think you have the wrong impression-- you do NOT need to invest in expensive clothes to take a dance lesson !!-- On the contrary, if its Salsa , the dress is very, very casual ( jeans etc. ) and even in ballroom, that would not be unusual.

there are several studios in your area . Check out their class schedule , it will be the best way to start-- the variety of classes will give you a better direction.

Go to dance sites in La on the net -- it will give you a list .

Also check out your local universities for ballroom societies. They are often open to the public. Also:

Community Centres
YM/YWCA
etc.

They often offer group classes to start that are less expensive.

You could also check local dance supply shops as independent teachers often place advertising pamphlets there.

The dresses you see on this site are for competitions. No one wears them at any other time. For lessons and practice, you can wear regular, casual clothes (best if they are comfortable and not too tight or getting in the way of moving).

This site and accessdance.com also have Directories where you can find dance studios in your area.

Good luck! Happy dancing!

Definitely look around for some group lessons, as they are a good place to start and help you determine what style of dance you are most interested in; then you can start taking private lessons.

Costumes are only used in competitions or shows, and if you compete you are usually only allowed to wear costumes after you reach Silver level, which usually takes about a year or so. So you don't need one just yet!
