Finding it's just out of reach

I live in a small town in North Carolina, not to far from Norfolk, VA. Yet with my small town comes the lack of dancing instructors, and my hopes for learning are slowing slipping away.

With my grandmother's passing, I want to make her passion fuse with my passion. She was a very successful Ballroom dancer, and I am in love with the art or dancing.

How should I go about learning. Am I missing something, or should finding someplace to learn really be this hard?

Thanks!

Meesha

Sorry to hear you're having trouble finding an instructor. Have you tried Norfolk or any other larger city in the area? I know quite a few people who drive an hour or more to get to their dance lessons. If you find you have to travel to lessons, it can make it more efficient to take two lessons at a time and go less often.

Good luck! I hope you find a solution and can keep dancing.

We did what you suggested, because we had to drive a long ways for lessons, it worked out fine. We would review what we did the first hour, at the end of the seond lesson, to make sure we remembered it when we practised at home a day or 2 later.

Hi Meesha,

A good place to start is by contacting a local chapter of USA Dance. There is a chapter in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and a chapter for N.E. North Carolina (they list Elizabeth City). I think you will find them anxious to help and very knowledgeable about places to dance and instruction available in your area. If you go their dances, you'll likely meet people that are taking lessons and can tell you first hand what the different places are like.

Good luck,

Gary
