I'm getting married in about a year, and I'm trying to teach my fiance how to dance for our wedding. So far, Tango is her favorite, as is mine. Does anyone have any Tango songs that would be appropriate for a wedding dance/first song?

Probably NOT Roxanne!

Argentine Tango or American Style Tango?

Interestingly, last night my partner and I danced an American Tango to a disco / nightclub hustle song. Weird but it worked. I didn't catch the name though because the DJ was stringing songs together.

Check the "shopping" or "learn the dances" pages on this site. There are samples of different styles of music there.

Looking for American Tango song, that is romantic and not about hookers. Preferably one about love.

I have had a couple DJs play Dance with Me as a Tango. It actually worked well, even though most people dance chacha to it. It is a romantic song.

I'm sure there are plenty of Tangos with romantic lyrics. Check on some of the dedicated Tango websites for music.

Argentine Tango is probably your best bet for a wedding dance, since American and International are both typically very march-like. A great wedding sound is a small string ensemble (duet, trio or quartet) with piano & bandoneon. An example of the "sound" I'm thinking of can be found on the sountrack to the movie Scent of a Woman:

Click on the track called Por Una Cabeza to hear the Tango. You can hear more music from the same Tango orchestra, called The Tango Project, on their CD:

Most of the stuff on our website is International/American. You're welcome to listen to the tracks. But I don't personally recommend most of them for a wedding, unless your vision of your wedding dance is very different than what I'm thinking of.

Regards,
Jonathan

There's a "Weddingbell Tango" available on the Alfred Hause Tango Orchestra CD. It's available lots of places, including on this site. The link has an audio clip...so you can judge whether you like it or not!

Hope that's of some help, and Best Wishes!
How about this one?

Of all things, I danced American tango to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" last night. I thought the instructor was out of her mind at first.

Guess it just shows you can tango to things you might not expect, so don't limit yourself to considering just "tango" music.

Sometimes during our lessons there will be another lesson going on. If they're working on, say, a foxtrot and we're doing tango, we can usually dance fairly easily to each other's music.

Not something I would do at a party or normal dance by any means, but for practicing it works to keep a beat.
