Hey everyone!

Our Studio is hosting a Showcase and one of our students is interested in dancing a waltz, but hates typical (i.e. moon river, bridges of paris) waltz songs. Does anyone have any suggestions for more contemporary waltz pieces? She really loved the rock song featured on "So you think you can dance," but its a tad too fast. Any suggestions would be wonderful!

Theres no hope for anyone who can't dance a Waltz to Moonriver.

I don't know how contemporary these are but all I can think of are:

"Take it to the Limit" by The Eagles.
"So She Dances" by Josh Groban

My very first routine ever was to "Moon River". I have always loved that song!! It is overdone, but so timeless.
I do understand the want for something contemporary, but that can be tough to find for a waltz.

"If I Ain't Got You" done by Alicia Keys (not sure if her version is a waltz). There's a nice version on the Masters of Modern 13 album.

"Three Times a Lady"

"Endless Love"
I'm clearly a huge Lionel Richie fan...

"Open Arms"

"Canzone di Marinella" by Renato Zero

I've recommended these songs before for those seeking good Waltz tunes. "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls is good, but maybe a bit fast.
"With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston and Syreeta is a nice one.
"Tennessee Waltz" works if you are interested in a bit of a country twang to it.
If you are looking for current contemporary, "James" by OAR seems to work fine, too, though it is also on fast side.
I've always liked "Hello Young Lovers" from King and I, with the Johnny Mathis version being pretty decent.And I agree with those who feel you can't go wrong with "Moon River."

There's a very good cover version of the Katie Melua song "Closest Thing to Crazy" on the album Dancebeat 11- Dance A Little Closer. There's also an instrumental version on there.

You could also try "so she dances" by Josh Groban. I love to practise to it. It's modern and romantic. Hope you like it.
