Closed Hip Twist

I am having a terrible time with the closed hip twists in International Rumba.

I actually have trouble with all of my turns in all of my dances that don't actually travel in the line of dance. Typically if I practice them for a few hours on my own I can gain balance and be okay, not so with closed hip pivots. I keep lurching forward.

Does anyone have any advice?

Belleofyourball.I take it you are a lady. The 3th step is a delayed forward Walk then swivel to the right.
To make it more interesting after the Back Basic some do a 1/4 of a turn to the left followed by a 1/2 turn to the right with no extra timing involved. Having said that you can always take another bar of music which most do nowdays.
