Hi to all,
Not quite sure of the spelling of the subject. My query is: in the lyrics to this dance, reference is made to, 'dance the Eagle Rock with style and grace' Does anyone know of a dance called, 'Eagle Rock'?

It's from "Ballin' The Jack"

First you put your knees together, close up tight,
Then you sway 'em to left , then you sway 'em to the right.
Step around the floor kind of nice and light,
Then you twis' around, and twis' around with all your might,
Style and Grace, Swing your foot way round, then bring it back,
Now that's what I call Ball-in the jack.
Then you do the Eagle Rock with style and grace, (Raise arms Like an eagle)
Swing your foot way'round then bring it back,
Now that's what I call Ballin' the jack"...

Thank you, SmoothGeezer,
I suppose that when you spread the arms (wings) then you rock from foot to foot. I assume that the lyrics refer to an action, rather than referring to a dance.

Ballin' the Jack dates from around 1913 and AFAIK the reference to Eagle rock was just to the action of waving the arms in the air like wings whilst rocking from foot to foot as you suggest.

The action was revived on its own around 1970 in Australia when Daddy Cool had a big hit called "Do The Eagle Rock".

lluv2Dance. The guy who was responsible for the Hokey Cokey pased away. He couldn't be kept in his coffin. He kept putting his left leg out. Must have been muscle memory

Hi, Anon,
I can well believe that, if that was the requested funeral music.
