This still seems to be a problem in which the lady opens far too wide.
On a piece of A4 paper put a dot in the centre and draw a line to each top corner. How open should the lady be on step three of an Open Telemark. Half the distance across the top. Half it again and then again. It could even go a little tighter than that. The ladies RF should be pointing down the LOD. Her shoulders over her feet and the head looking on the outside of that line. It must be added that it is not necessary to turn the head into promenade, but if it is, we must be looking on the outside and not in.
Does anybody notice that Karen Hilton on a Fallaway keeps her head looking left all the time.

The lady does not open in an open telemark, period.

Due to the direction of rotation she actually "closes" to promenade position rather than "opening" to it.

To be specific, after her feet stop turning an an alignment consistent with promenade, her body, upper body especially, needs to continue turning anticlockwise so that her body will be closed to her partner in the resulting promenade position rather than opened away from him.

This is the problem that I have with my partner going into the Promenade Position at the end of the OTTL, we are rotating clockwise and she takes her R Side away from me forcing me to come out in whatever position she ends in. I have asked her to come out backwards just as the man does on the Open Tel?

Try dancing the turning lock to right ending in closed position, randomly substituted for the more usual promenade version.

Once she has to allow for the possibility of ending in closed position, she will probably stop opening too much.

Also make sure that you aren't yourself encouraging her to open too far or too soon.

If its the Overturned Spin Turn finishing backing LOD and the the Turning Lock clockwise If that's the one, the man is more often than not to blame. The LF must pass the RF completely. Usually the man has not gone into the cross deep enough. Sometimes it just resembles a Chasse which of course is usless. Unless it is done correctly the lady hasn't got a chance.

There are turning locks to both the right (clockwise) and the left (anticlockwise).

My own comment about anticlockwise was with regard to the original topic of the open telemark, before either turning lock came into discussion at all.

My mistake. I just read cdroge's post and responded. I didn't even notice your comment about the lock turning to the right.
