I'm looking for a description of the steps involved in the "fishtail".
Can anyone refer me to a source or post same?
Thanks

It's in any syllabus in existance I'm sure, but don't know where to find it online! I'll do my best...Man: lf fwd & across outside partner in a checking motion. rf makes kind of a lock behind the left. lf fwd, rf forward, lf locks behind right, rf fwd.Woman is natural opposite. Is this what you're looking for? If you need more detail (footwork, timing, directions), I'll let someone with a syllabus in front of them give you that.

I think you have the right idea, twnkltoz, but with the man's feet backwards. Switch RF and LF and that should be basically correct. Here's the ISTD technique book's step decription for the man:1. RF fwd in CBMP OP, facing DC, HT, S, rise e/o 12. LF crosses behind RF, facing LOD, T, Q, up, sway R3. RF fwd and slightly to side (small step), facing DW, T, Q, up4. LF diag fwd L side leading, facing DW, T, Q, up5. RF crosses behind LF, facing DW, T, Q, up6. LF diag fwd, facing DW, TH, S, up and lower e/o 67. RF fwd in CBMP OP, H, S [to start next figure]It sort of resembles a Forward Lock stopped after the lock, turning 1/4 R to do a full Forward Lock. Lady's part should be the normal opposite of the man's. I hope this helps.-- James Marshall marshall@astro.umd.edu http://www.astro.umd.edu/~marshall

Doh...thanks Dronak, I realized you were right as soon as you said it! I was picturing it in my mind and for some reason pictured the woman's part correctly, but the man's part backward.
