convincing my brother to compete

so my brother saw me taking dance lessons and decided he was going to take it too. me and him both really enjoy dancing and i am trying to convince him we should do a competition together. he is afraid he isn't good enough because he just started and doesn't know what is a good lesson plan to follow. He isn't sure how many lessons(private/group)we should take a week and how long we should practice and how many days. I think if he just tried he would have alot of fun! so my question is if anyone has any advice i could give him and if competitions have different levels according to your level in dancing.

Yes, amateur competitions are arranged by both age and level of ability. You and your brother would both be Adult competitors and, because you're beginners, either Newcomers or Bronze. It depends on how much you learn before your first competition.

Visit www.usadance.org for details of membership (yours would have to be Athlete to compete) and competition.
