Did anybody else watch the Friday finals of the Professional Ballroom and Amateur Latin from Manaco.I thought the colour of one of the Italian lady Latin Finalists costume, with the guys matching pants really showed
Also is it noticed that none of the music played was vocal.

Hi Don,
I also noticed nearly all dancers did not conform to phrasing of the music. Do you think this fad has finished?, if so, some of the so called competitive coaches will have to try and teach dance and not robotics.

lluv2Dance. I didn't notice the Phrasing But I did notice a Cross behind instead of the Feather Finish straight into a heel lead on a Reverse movement in the Foxtrot. Also another did Double Locks. I also notice that Fleckerls might be going out of fashion in the V. Waltz. If I saw correctly one couple only did the Reverse Fleckerl and came straight out. Which dance or dances did you see that were out of Phrase. For those who dont know that has nothing to do with being out of Rhythm. Although out of Rhythm would also lead to being out of Phrase. Social Dancers don't worry. You do it all the time. Especially Sequence Dancers and Dances..
I can't see groups in the Standard style not being taught in eight bar groups and finishing on 16 or 24 bars. If anybody sees Marcus Hilton Basic Foxtrot wonders why he holds up on his Change of Direction . If he didn't he would finish a couple of bars too early. Best Wishes.

Hi,
With having a day off today, I'll be watching from 1.00pm till the end. I was particularly impressed with the ladies in the Latin. The speed and balance these ladies show is almost unbelievable.
I did notice that in the Cha, Cha, Cha, that the lateral chasse was replaced with either a ronde chasse or just a twisting action on the spot which was completely out of time with the 1/2, 1/2 1. beats of the music. Nevertheless, I loved it!

lluv2dance. I thought that both events were sensational. Have you noticed how on the Cha Chasses the footwork has changed . It used to be B flat, Ball flat, Ball flat. Now the second step the heel stays up. The third step is Ball flat. Its a changing world. And its all there on youtube.

Hi,
That footwork is given as an alternative action in the UKA Latin technique book (Revised Edition).

Quote:
An alternate foot position for step 2 of the side chasses to the left or right is to close the moving foot to the supporting foot. When this occurs the foot is not normally lowered.
End of quote.

lluv2Dance. Over the past couple of days a whole heap of stuff has come up with Slavik and Karina. To start all that is needed is to Google " Rumba Walk Warm Up ". We know there are no alignments in Latin but there are amounts of turn. Take a look to your right and choose Spot Turns. Look at the alignment of the stepping foot. Do you see how they are diagonaly towards each other inwards and not a 1/4 turn on the first step as it is written in that ISTD red book of horrors.

Where can i see it. Do you mean the vido clips. Start by Google . Rumba Walk Warm Up. Look to your right and select for instance Spot Turn or New York. If you keep going and watching you could find Sergey Ryupin and
Elena Khvrova Jive. If you like them keep clicking. Replace Jive with Russia. Its good to see Elena in the the top six in yesterdays final from the World Professional in Innsbruck Austria. She is now with a different partner Andrei Skufca after dancing for a while with Slavik
