Standard: Four "Schools of Thought"
Posted by Clary

This follows from a query I posted in the "Body Contact in Smooth and Standard" thread.
Here goes:
In the Sept/Oct 2007 Dance Notes Vol X Issue 5, Maja Serve was interviewed about "The Shape of Things" in which she hinted that there are four schools of thought for Standard dancing: Body, Square, Round and Traditional.
Then, she talks around the topic without really providing any concrete information about these purported schools and what they each propose as their basic methods.

For instance, Maja Serve says in the article that it's "clear" which school Christopher Hawkins and Hazel Newberry came from and says "there's no doubt on that one." Well, I don't know (a) which "school" they came from, or (b) who their coaches were. Does anyone know? If so, are you willing to provide that information and post it?

In that same Dance Notes article, Maja Serve say that it's "clear" which school Luca and Loraine Baricchi belong to. Well, I don't know (a)which "school" they came from or (b)who their coaches were. Does any know? If so, are you willing to provide that information and post it?

Can anyone identify any of the basic tenants of any of the four schools of thought? Who the founders were? Who the current couples are who adhere to those schools?

Perhaps a separate thread for each of the schools would be a good idea. But I'd appreciate the information in whatever thread it appears. Anyone?
