We just had our first lesson in argentine tango and I am not so sure whether we should use heel lead on our forward step or something else. Could someone help us on this part and thanks in advance.

Jonathan - Thanks for the response. My instructor actually had the same response when I asked him but he anwered in an unsure or tentative way. I know this website is quite informative and on occasion I use it if I have doubts about patterns and technique.

It is my understanding that Argentine Tango dancers prefer to see toe leads on forward steps. There is no need for heel leads, because the movements do not employ strong driving or swinging action as they do in ballroom. Argentine Tango walks tend to be more "balletic", with the foot extending forward before the body moves over it.

Enjoy your Tango!

Sincerely,
Jonathan Atkinson www.ballroomdancers.com
