Does anyone know where I could buy a NDCA Syllabus? I would love to find a vintage copy.

Thanks,
Brendan

If memory serves me, I believe only one was ever printed ( all 13 dances )and was completd in the early 80s, which would make it vintage..

To the curious. :)

I have a small collection of old dance books, IE "Modern Dancing" by Vernon and Irene Castle 1914. "the Modern Dances" By Arthur Murray 1923. And a few others.

My teacher has one of the NDCA Syllabus' and it's original copyright was I THINK 1947 and then revised in the 80's

I would also love to have an original copy of "From The Ballroom to Hell: Grace And Folly In Nineteenth-Century Dance".

Sounds fascinating. I never thought about older dance books but I can see how they would be interesting to collect and how they have a historical value.

I wonder, how far back in time could one go with collecting books on dance?

It depends on which style of dance.. for the " modern" era.. probably the 20s ( dances had just begun to be annotated )

There are some for the earlier periods, covering primarily referential topics like indigenous cultural dances ( Tango, Rumbas etc ).

A good public library is your best source..

bclure. I would take very good care of the book Modern Dancing by Vernon and Irene Castle 1914. It is a collectors item. Possibly it is the first ever published book on Ballroom Dancing.
How did it come into your possesion.

The Castle book came off Ebay. I paid under $25 with shipping and it is in great condition.
