Generally ballroom dancing is not an academic program of the college, but something offered by a student organization or something made possible by proximity of the campus to top-notch dancing resources. There are exceptions, such as BYU where the program is part of the college's academic offerings, but you should carefully compare the "program" option against the "location" ones.

Rebecca you may want to look at the mission of the school. Take BYU for example (don't yell at me, I know what I'm talking about my cousins and Mom and Dad all went to BYU)

It is a Mormon College that actually means to instill Mormon values. The costumes the BYU dancers wear are all, modest, and have certain parts they must cover so dancers still have the option to wear their garments.

Further they are known for their formation ballroom not their regular ballroom, and I have to be honest. If you watch them perform you will see that they put anyone with all that lude and lascivious hip movement as far back into the formation as they can get them.

I also see American styling, not Latin. If you don't believe, watch the Mormon channel because they show their dancers fairly often (its on DISH and Directv). My grandfather loves them and is horribly disgusted at the 'filthy, suggestive' way the rest of the ballroom dancers move.

Be careful that you understand what you are lookng for. Racy Latin, don't go to BYU. Wholesome formation ballroom, BYU is your place.

I know my college has a ballroom dance team, but I think it's solely for students. As far as actual dance classes, I don't think we offer that.

I cannot speak to programs of study in the way of formal classes, but Texas A&M has a very active ballroom dance group and they take a lot of classes from a local teacher who is good. I believe Ohio State also has a ballroom group although I am not personally familiar with them. I am certain many other large schools have groups.

are you seeking to study dance for a career or to find a university where you can dance while getting your degree?
