Recently I have noticed a lack of women at our local dances. Has anyone else noticed this?

That happens here on a very rare occaision. When it does I say "yeah! A chance to follow!".

Not to detract from your frustration. I have seen some cycles. Women frustrated about sitting out in the majority go to other activities. Then things swing the other way.

Some hints.

Any dance near holiday (at least a family type like Eater or Christmas) will have more men than women, because women are more likely to be involved with non dancing activities.

The worse the weather is, the greater the chance there will be more men than women.

And, for some reason, almost any time I go to a dance not taking a partner with me, there will be more men than women....
