The American Ballroom Challenge events are held in Columbus, Ohio, if that's what you are seeing on TV.
I would think most major cities have ballrooms hidden away in them, you just have to research and find them.
If you are ever in Vancouver, Canada, that is where Andy Wong operates his Grand Ballroom. His website might help you find some other places, or correspondence with him could lead you to some good places. This site also has a lot of information to get contacts through the dance directory.

I am not sure which dancing you are talking about. I know that if you are speaking of the Viennese Waltz, then in January and February in Vienna is ball season and they do indeed dance like you've seen on television in a social way. There are tour groups I think if you contact your local Opera company they can tell you which groups will take you there. You can also just go by yourself once you are sure of the dates buy tickets and enjoy.

The Opera Ball is the best but the Vienna Waltz hall has three stories of dances going at once in a beautiful hall to live music.

If you want to LEARN to dance like that you may want to try an Arthur Murray Dance studio. I dance there and I love it. Its a national company.

Yes, you should learn but don't just buy into a dance company's name. Research the best option in your area with the best teachers. Maybe it's Arthur Murray and probably you'll get a better deal and a better instructor at an independent studio. They won't make you learn dances and steps you don't care about as a part of their teaching syllabus.

Don't get talked into a slick plan and don't sign a contract. If your instructor can't make it worth your while every day without a leash to keep you coming in then why are you paying them at all?
