I agree that it's similar to samba...by absorbing the change in height with your abdomen, you can have a lot going on with your feet and hips with out too much up and down motion with your head. Keeping your knees and hips moving will keep it smooth.

Jive seems similar to Samba because both keeps the body in the front and there is a bounce action. For sure samba has that bounce very clear but jive has a familiar action.
In my opinion, to show your energy, at every step of the basic move your knees as much as higher. 1-2-3-a-4-5-a-6 is a jive chasse. W

I'm sorry the message was broken by mistake. A jive basic is 1-2-3-a-4-5-a-6 here at all steps try to move your knees as close as to your body. By the way, doing the chasse I mean 3-4 and 5-6 have make your feet loose the contact with the floor but never jump !! It's a smooth action and seems very energetic. That's waht I think

Yes, stop doing Jive and take a class in Collegiate Shag. Jive sucks, Shag is awesome.

llyaK. Internationa Jive . Use the knees a bit like a bike pump. Knees are never straight. A good teacher is needed. Learn to stand correctly. It has been called an A Frame, meaning your foreheads are nearer to each other than your feet. The conection between the hands are at about waist level, completing the A Frame. When you check back leave the head where it is. In other words don't move away from each other on a Link or a Fallaway Rock. I have put all of this in, just to let you know that a good teacher is essential. You might be interested to know that in a competition Flick Jive is being used more that the side together side which is Swing Jive. The main difference is the steps are done more on the spot, and it is better for handing the music if it is fast. This is according to former British Champion Karen Hardy commenting at a recent IDSF Championship. She also added that even though with her former partner Brian Watson Jive was one of their good dances, she didn't particulaly like the Jive at all.
