Hi. I have a couple of queries about footwork as given in the technique books (Howard)
Firstly, slow waltz - turning lock to the right and running weave. These two figures have the same timing, 1 & 2,3. In the running weave, the lady's footwork is H, T,T,TH. whereas in the turning lock to the right (as typically taken after O/T spin turn) it is T,T,T,TH. I don't understand why the first step in the turning lock to right is a toe, especially as the lady is, sort of, on the outside of the turn and would need a strong driving action to pass the man, yet the footwork calls for a toe. On the running weave, the man is passing in front of the lady, who thus wouldn't need such a strong drive, yet the footwork is a heel lead on the first step.
In foxtrot, the lady's footwork in the feather step (when of course she is moving backward) is Th, Th,Th (or Bh to be more precise i guess). So why, on the back feather, where the man is going backward, is his footwork Th, T, Th? I understand the lady's footwork, as it helps strong flowing movement (drives me mad (a little!)when a partner bobs up during a feather step)
