Anybody read the e-mail/saw the post concerning the changes to USABDA effective 1 Oct ? Pretty interesting. Any comments ? Now we are all known as dancesport athletes. We will compete based on proficiency and skill level.

I read something but it was just a proposal dated September 30th and still needed to be voted on. Have you read or heard something saying that it's been voted on and passed? Or am I just confused? Can you post a link to what you read that says it is effective October 1? Thanks.

Thanks Jonathan, this is exactly what I read earlier. According to this document, it is a proposal from the USABDA DanceSport Committee to the Governing Council. The Governing Council still needs to discuss it and vote on it for it to go into effect.

I'm still curious to know how/where/why the original poster thinks that these proposals went into effect on October 1st, because as far as I know they haven't (and I'm on the Board of my local chapter so I tend to get mailed info on these things as it becomes available).

Wow! Sounds like USABDA is fightin' mad. Based on what I read, it looks to me like all bridges between USABDA and NDCA have been burned to a crisp.

By the way, the article is in PDF format. Here's a link to it:

I'm not sure what I think of the details of the proposal anymore... heard too many sides to it, too much other dance politics orbiting my head... and some of it even ties into disputes over what I should be working on right now.

But as for burning bridges, if the organizations can't get along, then perhaps its best that they end up divorced in such a way that neither can go on pretending to be the only game in town. I don't know anymore what the right way to run dancesport is - but I do know that I'm no longer willing to trust a single organization to tell me what it is.

I look forward to the ability to choose between the varied competition offerings of USABDA, NDCA, and third parties, in search of what fits my needs best.

...maybe someday I'll even figure out what those are...
