In International Style the syllabus lists sections that apply to Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels in competitions.

The American style syllabus (NDCA,USABDA,USISTD)lists Bronze, and Silver levels, but no Gold levels. How are Gold level dancers judged in American Style competitions?

The ISTD hs just published and now offers the Gold Syllabus. You can Contact Esther Don, the creator of the syllabus, for copies. I can't find her number off hand, but I am sure you can track her down through the USISTD.org

DVIDA also has a syllabus for Gold Syllabus American Smooth. You should be able to get a copy through the dancevision.com web site.

Thanks for the info, I will look into those syllabi.

I guess my question was more general. How were American gold level dancers judged BEFORE the DVIDA and USISTD syllabi were published?

Thanks.

An excellent question, and a source of some heartache among dancers! One rule of thumb that was used was that you couldn't dance apart with no hand holds at all for much longer than a measure or two used in transitions. They didn't want to see whole walls of jazz-style side by side dancing, for instance.
