My dance partner and I are young (17) and have only been dancing for two years and have been asked to perform for this fundraising Ball our high school music dept. puts on every year, however the dance teachers our school use cannot help us put something together over the summer. We have no money to take classes or pay for teachers and are in a jam: You see neither one of us really know the names of steps and moves (during practice we sort of make up our own name for things and make even some of our own moves lol) Willy and his wife say we are realy good, but we both know that we just sort of do whatever the music calls for....(that sounds made up but its true) Any advice?

As long as you both are having fun and are enjoying the dancing and the music, to me, this is all that matters.

In situations such as yours, settle on a piece of music that you would both like to use for your performance, listen to it repeatedly, you will be surprised how much the music will guide you into movements.

A Coach or an Instructor would definitely provide you and your partner with ideas and choreagraphy to suit your individual personalities and the music you have chosen.

I wish you luck and hope I have shed some light on your upcoming performance.

I agree with Gord. However, I wonder if you have seen the material in the Learning Center on this website. It may be just what you are looking for.

Can you afford a video? DanceVision has some good ones...that way you can get some patterns.
