To Whom it May Concern,
My name is Katie and I am a junior at the University of Denver this fall. I am trying to get a competitive ballroom dancing team started at the University similar to traditional ones at many colleges and universities on the East Coast. Most likely we would be considered a club sport and would have some funding to help pay for a coach and for entry fees to various competitions. So far, without advertising (only by word of mouth), there has been significant interest in the student body (at least 20 students). However, most of these students have never danced formally or had formal lessons. There is a lot of spirit and a lot of motivation in place of experience.
We are looking for a coach or instructor who would be willing to take a novice team and help to turn it into a competition-worthy team that will hopefully take hold at DU and become a tradition and a longstanding student organization. Though I am not sure about pay at this time, we may be able to pull a yearly stipend out of either DU program funding or membership dues.
Like I said, neither I nor (probably) any of the interested students have any experience with ballroom dancing. I don't know about competitions, their frequency, entry fees, required skill levels, etc, but that is a goal I know we would like to reach.
Please let me know if you or anyone you know would be interested in helping us out with this endeavor. Right now I am spearheading this group and I would appreciate any information you could give me, even if you know of no one interested in helping us. (We would meet/practice once a week.)
Thank you so much for your help,
Sincerely,
Katie
