I'm sure this is posted all of the time but I'm a softmore in high school and I want to be able to show class at homecoming in 2 weeks.

I plan to take swing lessons in the winter but the dance is in 2 1/2 weeks. I play sax and a bunch of other instruments and have played in jazz bands and marching band so I'm experenced in music and steping. I don't have enough time to take lessons so any advice would be nice.

As I'm sure many others will tell you, there's no quick road to dancing. In 2 weeks, you could maybe learn some footwork, but "to be able to show class", as you put it, requires years of working on technique, styling, and leading.

Having a background in music is a huge help, but you will need lessons of some sort. Check out a local studio and get some of the basic steps in rumba, swing, and cha cha. Those dances would probably cover a lot of the music they play at social dancing events.

As Dancer said, it will take more that 2 1/2 weeks.

But if you're desperate for a quick fix and your fairly certain it will be mostly swing/jive played then hit your public library for a beginners video.

It's a start.

Privates, by far, are best but check your community centers, university and local societies for group lessons too.
