Lesson Intimidation

I'm 14 and started taking private lessons a couple months ago. Even now I still feel intimidated even when no one is watching! I might just be worried about doing everything right. Any advice on how to loosen up and just have fun?
Thank you!

Hey! I can relate to you because I'm fourteen also, and I went through that stage awhile ago. You just have to realize that, just like everyone else, your learning, and though you may make mistakes, everyone does. And once you get your self confidence up there, you'll notice that your dancing will become much better, more fun, and alot easier, because you can trust yourself to do the things that you have to do. It sounds and seems impossible, trust me I know the feeling, but just try to be more comfortable with yourself and it will do wonders for your dancing, confidence, and other things that may be going on in your life. I hope I helped and if you need anything else you know where to find me! Good Luck and Keep Dancing!!!!!

hey! thank you for that great advice. You are right. I just need to get comfortable with myself. It also helped knowing that there are other people that felt the same way once. Thank you!

It's good that you're taking private lessons and worried about doing everything right. I can't stress how important it is to have a good instructor; try to find one geared more towards competition dancing rather than social dancing. Social dance instructors are often under pressure to teach fancy figures, and will drill you less on the techniques. If your technique is bad, you'll be spending a lot of time later trying to correct it because you've practiced with your bad technique for so long. Confidence should come from knowing that you dance well; which will come with lots of practice and patience, so don't try to force yourself to be confident. Once you know you're dancing well, you'll really have fun. Remember, the simplest things, like holding your posture, weight transfer, etc. can also be the most difficult.
Good luck, and continue to work hard on your dancing.
