My uncle was a professional dancer doing anything from ballroom to Latin and everything in between. He passed away in 2001 and I really want to learn all these dances and win competitons just like he did. I always loved to dance and would love to know all these dances. What I need to know is Where do I start, do all those dvds really teach you anything or do you need to take a class. Any feedback would be great. Thanks Tiffany

Tiff,

Videos and DVDs provide valuable information but pale in comparison to working with a good teacher.

You might see good technique in a video but until you begin to feel it in your body it's just pictures. IMHO you can never feel it watching videos.

You have to take class, and more specifically private coachings, to get enough good information and experience to be able to win professional competitions. You also have to find a suitable partner and practice practice practice! A good place to start might be to find out who coached your uncle, what studios he danced at, etc. Perhaps you can take lessons from his coaches or other people who worked with him during his professional career.

Be prepared to leave your ego at the door to the studio and visit my three friends often. Peat and Re-Peat, Nitty and Picky and Fine and Re-Fine. Maintain too the attitude that you are going to dance your best each time out and dont worry about the trophies or rewards, they will come as they should.
