3a. Samba Walks in PP

The Samba Walk is a unique sequence of 3 actions, taken with a subtle bounce. The first action is a forward walk, where both knees flex immediately upon transfer of weight. The second action is an extension of the free fot backwards until the leg is nearly straight, while the body weight shifts back just enough to take partial weight to the foot. Finally, the front foot slides backward 2-3 inches and full weight is replaced.

Samba Walks taken in promenade position are done as most promenade figures, with man and lady on opposite feet and traveling in the general direction of line of dance (between diagonal center and diagonal wall). Unlike the narrow "V-shaped" promenade of the ballroom dances, the Samba promenade position is opened much wider, so that man and lady are nearly facing the same direction, with just the upper bodies twisted slightly toward each other. Because of this, it is necessary for man and lady to slide the hand (man's right and lady's left) farther around the partner's body.

The Samba Walks in promenade position can be repeated as desired. They are typically taken after a Whisk or Botafogo ended in promenade position.
