23. Outside Spin
The Outside Spin is a type of Natural Spin Turn, where the lady steps forward outside partner on the first step, and man steps forward outside partner on the second. The foot positions necessitate smaller steps and a much tighter rotation than that of the classic Spin Turn.
In the Waltz syllabus there are two variations of Outside Spin: (1) A full turn ended with man facing diagonal wall, to be followed by a Natural Turn, and (2) an under-turned spin (1/2 to 3/4) ended with man backing diagonal center, to be followed by 4-6 Reverse Turn. See the video demonstrations for examples of both.
